Devotees of the jam band will tell you moe. is the greatest band you’re not listening to. What do you really know about moe.?
So, where did the band get its name? Well, musician and Bandleader Louis Jordan did a musical short named βFive Guys Named Moeβ way back in 1943. Decades later, a musical based on Jordanβs work was produced under the same name. That show contained a song, βFive Guys Named Moeβ written by Larry Wynn and Jerry Brewster. Joe Jackson covered the song on his 1981 βJumpinβ Jiveβ album, which the band had on hand as they were mulling over names. They shortened the name to βmoe.β and took it as their moniker.
The band formed in Buffalo in 1989.
Although the band has had 10 different members over the past 20 years, two members have remained unchanged. They are both guitarists: Chuck Garvey and Rob Derhak.
Many of the legendary jam bandβs avid fans are happy to be called βmoe.ronsβ.
The bandβs newest album, Β No Guts, No GloryΒ will be released May 27th, but you can pre-order a copy now through the bandβs website.
