TAJ MAHAL and KEB’ MO: ROOM ON THE PORCH TOUR with Abraham Alexander
It’s been nearly a decade since Taj Mahal and Keb’ MO’ teamed up for their collaborative debut, TajMO, and though the album was a runaway success—it won a GRAMMY Award, garnered rave reviews, and spawned a massive joint tour of the US and Europe—neither artist ever expected to record a follow-up. Though the two only began recording together as TajMO in 2017, the pair’s creative relationship (and mutual admiration) stretches back decades. Rather than rest on their considerable laurels, Taj and Keb’ decided to continue pushing themselves into new creative territory with Room On The Porch, writing and recording the bulk of the album from scratch over the course of just two weeks in the studio. Feel-good album opener “Room On The Porch (ft. Ruby Amanfu)” is a perfect example. “That song started out as a little guitar piece I used to play by myself after shows when I was still wired from the stage,” Taj recalls. “I shared it with everybody in the studio, and then Keb’ and Ruby built this whole beautiful song around it.” Like much of the album, it’s an earnest, tender affair, with Taj, Keb’, and Ruby all trading vocals in an ode to friendship and community. “Stay as long as you like / That’s alright,” they insist. “Come up on / There’s room on the porch for everyone.” The driving “Thicker Than Mud” honors the enduring bonds of family; the romantic “My Darling My Dear” and soulful “She Keeps Me Movin’” revel in the comfort of love and commitment; and the bilingual “Better Than Ever (ft. Wendy Moten)” finds the silver lining in every cloud. “It was like a party every day,” adds Keb’, who later put the finishing touches on the album at his own home studio. “We had our sons in there playing with us and all the other musicians and writers were hanging the whole time, so it was a really fun place to be.” It wouldn’t be a TajMO album without a heaping dose of the blues, though. The pair reach all the way back to 1923 for an aching take on Jimmy Cox’s “Nobody Knows You When You’re Down and Out,” tip their cap to the next generation with a raw, stripped-down cover of Jontavious Willis’ “Rough Time Blues,” and embrace the genre’s ageless power on the sweltering closer “Blues’ll Give you Back Your Soul.” “They say jazz will give you back your mind / Reggae give you back your body,” Taj sings. “I know you like you like rock and I know you like the roll / But the blues, the blues will give you back your soul.” Indeed, that excitement is palpable on Room On The Porch, which feels just as fresh and revelatory as the pair’s debut. No luck required.

DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS + DEER TICK
Since their inception in 1996, Drive-By Truckers have carved out a unique niche in the music scene with their raw, unflinching storytelling, heavy-hitting guitar riffs, and blend of Alternative and Southern rock. Founded by Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley, Drive-By Truckers have released 14 studio albums and played more than 2,500 shows in the last three decades. Notable members include long-time drummer Brad Morgan and current members Jay Gonzalez and Matt Patton, who have helped define the band’s evolving sound. The band’s work has often reflected the state of American society, particularly through their celebrated trilogy of albums: American Band (ATO, 2016), The Unraveling (ATO, 2020), and The New OK (ATO, 2020). This series marked a bold foray into politically charged and topical songwriting, earning acclaim for its insightful commentary and fearless expression. Emotional Contracts, the latest full-length album from Deer Tick, catalogs all the existential casualties that accompany the passing of time, instilling each song with the irresistibly reckless spirit that’s defined the band for nearly two decades. Before heading into the studio with producer Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, Spoon, Sleater-Kinney), the Providence-bred four-piece spent months working on demos in a perpetually flooded warehouse space in their hometown, enduring the busted heating system and massive holes in the roof as they carved out the album’s 10 raggedly eloquent tracks. Emotional Contracts fully echoes the unruly energy of its creation, ultimately making for a heavy-hearted yet wildly life-affirming portrait of growing older without losing heart. Founded by McCauley in 2004, with the lineup solidified in 2009, Deer Tick partly attribute their unfaltering chemistry to a shared sense of humor. To that end, the album takes its title from an inside joke regarding potential aliases for the band. “We were saying that if we had to play a secret show under a fake name, we could be The Hitmen and dress in pinstripe suits like Prohibition-era gangsters. Then we decided, ‘Let’s just release an album as The Hitmen—we’ll call it Emotional Contracts, like contract-killing on an emotional level,” says McCauley. “But the title connects here with each song somehow–every song is about a deal you’ve made with yourself at some level.” But as a phenomenally rowdy live act who once averaged 250 shows a year, Deer Tick mainly credit their deep-rooted connection to a mutual love for the unpredictability of the musical impulse. “I feel very lucky that we all ran into each other at some point pretty early on in our lives,” says McCauley. “From the start, I just wanted to find other musicians that would somehow all stick together, which definitely isn’t easy. But we all have a real fascination with music, and that desire to never limit ourselves or repeat ourselves is something that we all very much continue to share.” In 2022, they released Welcome 2 Club XIII (ATO), an introspective look back at their early days, juxtaposed with the realities of adult life and parenting. This album highlights the band’s continued ability to blend personal reflection with broader societal observations. In July 2024, the band released the deluxe edition of their influential third studio album, Southern Rock Opera. Alongside the reissue, the band has been touring across North America on their “Southern Rock Opera Revisited 2024 Tour”, featuring a full performance of the album that solidified their legacy in the annals of rock history. Yachtley Crew are a seven-piece SoCal band who burst onto the club scene in 2017, selling out countless local venues before starting a nationwide Yacht Rock craze and being noticed by the legendary Jimmy Buffett, who signed them to his own Mailboat label prior to their new deal with Earache/Universal Records. The band’s 2003-released Seas the Day EP include fan favorites such as Boz Scaggs’ “Lido Shuffle,” Ace’s “How Long,” Robbie Dupree’s “Steal Away,” the Bee Gees’ “How Deep Is Your Love,” and all-time Yacht Rock pioneer Christopher Cross’ “Ride Like the Wind.” Other songs in the band’s exhilarating live sets include Toto’s “Africa,” Looking Glass’ “Brandy,” and Rupert Holmes’ “Escape (The Piña Colada Song).” Seas the Day was produced and mixed by Grammy Award-winning Chris Lord-Alge (Stevie Nicks, Keith Urban, Bruce Springsteen, Green Day), and it features the band’s first original song “Sex on the Beach,” accompanied by a video with a guest appearance by Access Hollywood and iHeart Radio host, Mario Lopez. Following Santoro’s set, of the roughly three-hour show, RONNIE SMITH dons the iconic sunglasses and bedazzled suits of Elton John as he charts his style from the ‘70s to the present. BROTHERS OSBORNE
Brothers Osborne are one of music’s most consistently adventurous bands, a duo connected by not just blood, but also a lifetime of performing together, and a shared working class upbringing in Deale, Maryland. The reigning CMA and ACM Duo of the Year winners, John and TJ Osborne are leaders of a progressive and still classic school of country music, and the faces of the new generation of Nashville. The siblings took home their first GRAMMY in 2022, winning Best Country Duo/Group Performance for their song “Younger Me,” inspired by TJ’s recent coming out. The song is featured on the deluxe version of their GRAMMY-nominated album, Skeletons. BLUES TRAVELER WITH GIN BLOSSOMS
In 1987 the four original members of Blues Traveler—John Popper, Chandler Kinchla, Brendan Hill, and the late Bobby Sheehan—gathered in their drummer’s parent’s basement in Princeton, NJ to jam. From these high school sessions emerged a band that would go on to release 14 studio albums and counting, four of which have gone gold, three platinum, and one six-times platinum- selling more than 10 million combined units worldwide. Over an illustrious career Blues Traveler has played over 2,000 live shows in front of more than 30 million people, and, in “Run-Around,” had the longest-charting radio single in Billboard history, which earned them a Grammy® for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. Their movie credits include Blues Brothers 2000, Kingpin, Wildflowers and others. New Miserable Experience eventually went quadruple pla0num and three other char0ng singles were released from the album including “Allison Road” and “Un0l I Fall Away”.
