“This is a thrilling time for the Melody Tent. We are hoping these events become annual summer traditions. These new events are more than just great music in a unique venue. They create a full experience,” comments Deanna Lohnes, marketing director for the Melody tent and Music Circus. “We want to offer something for everyone. The Food Truck Festival has a family focus. We worked to make this event appealing for the whole family. At the other end of the spectrum is the Brewer’s Festival, our only age restricted event. We want to turn beer drinkers on to microbrews and new varieties from well-known brewers.”
The First Annual Melody Tent Brewers Festival on August 10th will offer a vast variety of beers (including many microbrews) for sampling. More than 40 brewers will be in attendance. The admission fee allows patrons to taste any of the offerings by an All Star lineup of brewers, large and small. Music will be provided by Cape and Islands favorites Entrain and the Adam Ezra Group.
The Melody Tent hosts its first Irish Music Festival on August 22nd. Headlining this special evening will be Grammy awarded and Emmy nominated violin virtuoso Eileen Ivers performing with Immigrant Soul. When you hear “a capella” what do you think of? Barbershop quartets? Kitschy vaudeville acts? At one time that was spot-on but these days a capella has a place in pop music alongside the biggest names in pop, hip-hop, rock and R & B. The guys in Straight No Chaser do an amazing job reinventing some of the greatest songs in popular music from Michael Jackson, Madonna, the Bee Gees, Bon Jovi and so many more.
Imagine the talent it takes to tour the world, have a PBS Special, establish residency at Harrah’s resort and top Billboard charts solely on vocals without musical accompaniment? Yes, Straight No Chaser is that good. So good Dreamworks optioned their story for a feature film. So good they’ve sold nearly a quarter million tickets to their invigorating live show. And through it all, the performances are still pitch perfect and the guys are having as much fun as ever. In fact, the fun has a lot to do with their success. “We take the music very seriously,” says Randy Stine. “We just don’t take ourselves too seriously.” Their talent and humor is matched by their humility and desire to put on the best show possible. Member Charlie Mechling offered, “With each performance, we are reminded of how fortunate and blessed we are to be able to do what we love to do.” Pretty even-keeled for a group that Atlantic Chairman/CEO Craig Kallman labeled “brilliant, fresh and totally compelling.”
To see Straight No Chaser live is to see a group VH1 calls “among the best in a capella.” Enjoy this clip. We did. And see the rare talents of Straight No Chaser live at Cape Cod Melody Tent on July 11th. Buy your tickets here.
